Mississippi Headwaters in May
2026 - Oil Pastel on Paper
This piece was done en plein air at the Mississippi headwaters in Itasca State Park on a May afternoon. My goal was to capture the rocky crossing and the water passing through it from Lake Itasca to begin the river’s journey. The water was reflecting a lot of green from the trees this day and influenced the overall color choice for this oil pastel painting.
***The original proportions are 9”x6” which is not a standard frame size. Both the 9×6 and 10×8 options are 9×6 printed space, but the 10×8 includes a border to fit in a standard frame without custom matting.***
